5. Profession : LAND LORD AND NATIONAL WORKER (Being Biggest Land Lord of the above place, he was LAMBERDAR)
6. (i)   When joined liberation         Movement
: IN 1912-13 A.D. while studying in the School-Capital.
  (ii)   Services rendered : HE WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR ACTIVISING THE WHOLE AREA (125 VILLAGES) COVERED BY SRI HARGOBIND PUR POLICE STATION. HE PARTICIPATED IN ALL THE MOVEMENTS SPONSERED BY INDIAN NATIONAL CONGRESS AFTER 1912. HE WAS A VETERAN LEADER OF NATIONAL CONGRESS. HE LED PEOPLE TO BELIEVE IN SWADESHI BY WAY OF LEADING A SIMPLE & HUMBLE LIFE. FROM THE ABOVE DATE TILL HIS DEATH HE USED ONLY HAND WOOVEN KHADI FOR HIS CLOTHES AND EVEN DID NOT USE SOAP ALL ALONG TO PROPOGATETHE CAUSE OF SWADESHI.
  (iii) Sufferings undergone  : Satyagrah 1930 Sentenced for three months RIGOROUS IMPRISONMENT AND FINE OF RS.200/- OR ONE MONTH’S SENTENCE IN LIEU OF THE SAME

HE PREFERRED TO UNDERGO ONE MONTH’S MORE IMPRISONMENT THAN TO PAY MONEY TO BRITISH GOVERNMENT. (Total 4 Months)

(b) Sentence awarded and undergone :

THREE MONTHS RIGOROUS IMPRISONMENT & ONE MONTH MORE R.I. IN LIEU OF RS.200/- FINE.

(c) Date of death (if deceased) : JANUARY 25, 1969.  (AIIMS, NEW DELHI)
(d) Any other matter of note deserving special mention. : Please see point 7 below
7. Special mention: : HE KEPT ALOFT THE FLAME OF FREEDOM FIGHT SINGLE HANDED IN 125 VILLAGES COVERED BY SRI HARGOBINDPUR POLICE STATION AS A PATRIOT.

WHEREVER HE MOVED HE LEAD THE STREAM OF PEOPLE. HE SACRIFICED WHOLE OF HIS ESTATE FOR THE CAUSE OF NATION. HE BUILT PUBLIC DHARMSHALA AT HIS OWN COST HE ENDEAVOURED TO REMOVE THE HARDSHIPS OF THE PEOPLE. IN VIEW OF HIS SIMPLICITY AND SACRIFICES PEOPLE FROM ALL COMMUNITIES LOVED AND RESPECTED HIM.

HE HELD VARIOUS HIGH OFFICES OF THE INDIAN NATIONAL CONGRESS. BUT VOLUNTARILY RELINQUISHED ALL OFFICES IN 1952-1953 WHEN HE WAS A PROVINCIAL DELEGATE (PUNJAB). BECAUSE HE WAS NOT INTERESTED IN POLITICS.

THEREAFTER HE CONTINUED TO SERVE THE PEOPLE FROM OUTSIDE THE CONGRESS IN HIS PERSONAL CAPACITY. HE DID NOT ACCEPT AWARD OF FREE GOVT. 25 ACRES LAND AS COMPENSATION TO HIM.

AFTER INDEPENDECE HE HELPED THE GOVERNMENT OF FREE INDIA TO REHABLITATE THE REFUGEES FROM WEST PAKISTAN. HE PROVIDED THE PEOPLE WITH FOOD AND CLOTHES AT HIS OWN COST.

Memorials

i) Lala Bishan Dass ji also built a Public Dharmshala in 1934 in memory of
his father & grand father at Sri Hargobindpur

 

ii) Room constructed for Sadhu Niwas in Ramakrishan Mission Sewashrma, Kankhal, Haridwar in memory of my great grand father.
It was inaugurated by Rev.  Srimat Swami Atmasthanandaji Maharaj, Vice President, Ramakrishna Math & Mission in 2005
